Summer vacation

What did we get up to during our summer holiday? Scroll down for photos and more details, but here's the Coles Notes version:

1 wedding
2 candy stores
3 GPS-induced dead-ends
4 bottles of syrup
5 verses of poetry
6 antique shops
7 harbour seals
8 nights camping
9 kids movies
10 cupcakes

So lovely to spend down-time as a family. Lots and lots of time with our lovely girls!

Campobello Island, New Brunswick

After the wedding, we convoyed over to St-Andrews and then took two ferries over to Campobello Island near the border between NB and Maine. René, Lyse, Sol and Janette stayed in a charming log cabin by the water, and we camped at the Herring Cover Provincial Park. What a lovely place to relax, discover and have fun.

We did a lot of driving on this trip, and movies weren't the only way to pass the time.

How come we're the only ones on this thing?

View towards Lubec, Maine

Watching the harbour seals

Amazing beaches and views, just a little too chilly.
Not sure the girls would have swam in the water even if it was a bathtub though, since they kept asking us if there were sharks, crocodiles and piranhas.

How did this tree get here, Daddy?

Laundry and coloring

East Quoddy Head Lighthouse, accessible only at low tide

About to climb down the treacherous stairs

Where's Estelle?
Oh yes, down by my leg!

These were steeper and more rickety than they appear

Gift from Sol.
Possibly the best ever.
Fancy food not required for this gang

Proud of our fairy houses
(and shower caps, because you never know)

FDR's summer cottage.
Bee-you-tiful!

Wallpaper everywhere.
A little overwhelming, but it works.

A few too many irons in the fire?

What is this called? Must get one in my garden!

They come in yellow too?!?

More wallpaper at the neighbors' and a big, big window

A botany lesson from Janette

Bangor, Maine, United States of Target

On the way to New Brunswick, we stopped in Bangor for a couple of nights camping. Amazingly, this was our first camping trip of the season, so we were eager to get out there to eat marshmallows, get bitten by mosquitoes, and shower semi-clean shower blocks (have you tried showering 3 people in a tiny, sandy, buggy stall without touching the moldy shower curtain wafting onto you) Does it seem like we are complaining? Well, that's part of the hilarious fun in camping.

We found a nest
Alice starts a collection of egg shells (not a hardy travelling collection)
Sweet and sticky
They've got Timmies in the States?!? We're moving here!
Train photo for Paul...
A real moving train that's painted with graffiti instead of Thomas the Train's face

Close up and in awe
At a safe distance
Best meal of the holiday - burgers, burritos and fish tacos!
Estelle noticed the squirty ketchup bottle and was very curious about it - "Some ketchup has a flap and some ketchup has a snout!)
Dancin' the night away

Classic coffee cosy hat.
Our special campers walking their bikes the 20m back to our site
Put a fork in it
She's actually quite good at this

Emo

Alice's acting group at day camp has really paid off. Here she is showing us a range of emotions. See if you can identify any.
