Serengeti

A ferocious lion lurks in the kitchen. Most will run and hide, but Alice keeps her cool and declares, as only a 4 year old can," J'ai même pas peur !"

A little brekkie?

During our stay in Ottawa this past weekend, the cold weather had us lay low - mostly eating, playing and swimming at the hotel. On our first morning, we were pleased to find out kids under 5 could eat at the breakfast buffet for free, so we all helped ourselves to eggs, sausages , bagels, etc. When Guy and the girls returned from the museum just before noon, the buffet was still on... and of course still free for the girls. So they sat down for another round of all you can eat breakfast yummies . When I returned to join the group for supper, we decided to stay in and eat at the same hotel restaurant... As soon as we entered the dining room, Estelle moaned with displeasure "No more breakfast"!

Grrrraaaaawwwww

I'm 2 and you're not!

Ottawa weekend

The whole family went to Ottawa for the weekend as Lucy had a short course at U of O. So while mommy was getting smarter the rest of us were getting culturer. Here are some pics from the Museum of Civilization: This photo was taken moments before Estelle took a big fall and was pretty shaken up and had a bruised ear. This was taken in the grand hall that has an amazing collection of Haida Totem poles. It sure is hard to impress a 2 year old. This is a famous statue that appears in black at the canadian embassy in Washington. I was trying to convey the importance of the "castle" in the distance being where the Prime Minister "worked". But Estelle was more interested in the vent she was standing on.

Famous Desharnais

The clan has reason to celebrate! One of ours has made to the big times. David Desharnais (distant distant relation because he grew up near where our ancestors moved out west from) is playing for the local major hockey team. He was undrafted due to his small stature and lack of explosive speed, and basically worked his way into the team with heart and hockey smarts. So dont be surprised to have more and more anglophones pronounce our names acceptably (hint: does not rhyme with mayonaise). Copy the link below to see a video of him scoring a goal and the announcers repeatedly not flubbing his name. http://www.versus.com/nhl/videos/monteal-goal-david-desharnais-2/

Personality

She's got it in spades. Go Alice, go!

Foo-Foo

Alice's word of the season is Foo-Foo. Is that a word? I don't think so, but it really makes here giggle. So here there are Foo-Foo'ing around... We got the floaties out for our upcoming vacation and Estelle tried hers on to make sure they still fit.

Estelle "Dry-All-Day" Desharnais

The big news around here is that Estelle is officially potty-trained. We can't take any credit for it though, because we were determined not to rush her (we were a little over-eager with Alice...) and VOILA! She just did it. No messing about, she just heads to the potty or toilet when she needs to. (Okay, we do reward her with a smartie , but it ain't a bribe!)
