It's okay, I'm safe

Just when we figured we were free to use the safety gate to prevent the raccoons from getting into our garbage, Alice's mobility forced us to "lockdown" the upstairs play area. Here she is checking the integrity of the system.

Daddy's back!

Another 3 weeks have gone by, and now Daddy is back from the cold, rocky north of Quebec. And to celebrate we ordered pizza on Friday night, and Alice got her very own (chopped & crust-trimmed) slice. Yummy!

My celebrity hairstylist

... also does Jack Nicholson's coiffure!

Dear Santa...

All I want for (early) Christmas is for my daddy to come home... "What, tomorrow?!?! You sure work quickly! Thanks Santa!"

Last Day.

Today was Lucy's last day of her maternity leave. Sigh. What an incredible year it has been, spending time with this precious little person, and watching her grow and learn. And now we start a new, hectic chapter of our family's life. Of course we'll try to keep you updated as often as possible. No time for a pity-party, I'm off to make our lunches... Bagels from our trip to the city yesterday. (Genevieve: la photo n'etait pas belle, donc je ne la met pas sur le blog...) One of Alice's favourite places to stand. This spot is pretty good too! The pavers made lots of noise and quite a stink today. Hey guys, do you need a hand? I've got this great flower...

Arts and crafts hour

"You know I'm gonna try to eat these, right?"

Parcours

The sport originated in France and was popularized by a James Bond movie. But it wasn't perfected until Alice performed the following move under the kitchen table...

At the park

High-five dad!

I could have sworn there was something on my spoon just a second ago... (check behind your shoulder, Alice) I hope this deck is sturdy...

Owls in her pants.

Lucy once worked with someone (who shall remain nameless) who claimed that when he was a little boy the swooshing sound his corduroy pants made when he walked made him think there were owls in them... I'm still not sure if he was kidding... but here is Alice in her cords. And here is a question for you: was there something unusual that you believed as a child? p.s. Alice is 11 months today!

Houston, we have a scooter!

Crawling, shmawling... Alice prefers bum-shuffling!

Ikea is Fun

And to think that some kids believe that the most fun thing about Ikea is the in-store ball pit.

Aunty Kath's back

text to follow later... baby is awake... Ah yes, where was I... So yesterday we went to Gran and Grandad's to visit with them and Katherine after her trip to Scotland with Uncle Ben. They had a lovely time and brought back great photos and nice goodies for Alice (thanks for the shoes, socks, necklace...) Enjoying the botanical gardens Yes, I'm cool! What? You didn't know that neon sunglasses are making a comeback? So this is what Uncle Ben does all day at work... Seems like fun! My first apron. Get out the rolling pin mummy!

So many beaded necklaces...

This afternoon we went for a stroll in old Ste-Rose. What a nice surprise to find out that it was the annual artists outdoor exhibit/sale. Mamie Lyse would have loved all of the chunky, funky necklaces! Alice's fave artist was the trickling water fountain! (not shown here...) We stopped for a treat... it was a hot afternoon! Waiting in the grass while the car cools off

A visitor from afar

Lucy's old school pal Sarah dropped in for a visit yesterday. Alice took advantage of this fresh pair of arms/legs to get Sarah to stroll her around the yard and up and down the stairs. Come back and visit anytime!

Leave it to the professionals...

Silvana (from daycare) mentioned that Alice doesn't seem ready to crawl anytime soon, but that she is a really solid "walker" and will likely become a biped soon (yeah, we noticed!) An exercise she started doing with Alice is to lean her up against the wall so that she is standing on her own. I guess the idea is that she will eventually take a step forward, and voila! Walking! Well, I tried this trick today, and what a happy girl and proud mama it made us! I even think my excessive squealing will help to make this a regular part of our routine, and we'll get around to those first steps soon enough. (I guess I'd better start cleaning up those piles of broken glass...)

A little of this...

and a little of that...

Can I work in your core shack, dad?

Feeling much better, thank-you!

It has been a difficult few days for both of us here at rancho-roseola... Yes, Alice caught her first contagious, viral disease. Icky, icky, icky. The virus basically consists of three days of unconfortable fever, followed by a break in the fever and a rash. It also seems to be accompanied by general grouchyness! So we have spent the past 3 mornings at the walk-in clinic, and most of yesterday at the hospital for tests. And for any of you new moms who have considered dabbling in Munchausen by proxy, it is SO not worth it. Hospitals are a yucky place to spend a lovely summer afternoon! Anyhow, the rash is on now, but our little sweetpea is feeling much better (eating better too) and we are both happy to rest up from the illness and the worry. A new skill Alice is mastering, taking bites of her food (instead of shoving the entire piece in her mouth!) A cookie upon returning home from the hospital (it was the first time we had both been back since that memorable day last September...)

Weekend

This was our first weekend with Guy back up north. Luckily, we filled our time with lots of Gran and Grandad! At the breakfast restaurant... and all they gave me to chew on was this plastic pelican! Thank goodness, I got a cookie later on! Swingin' in the sun How many more new decks are you going to build Grandad? Mummy forgot to bring my bib, but luckily my tshirt caught all the mess! You guys have your OWN personal swing? At your HOUSE? You are so lucky! (it really was more fun than it looks in this photo) Alice got to eat the blueberries that mum and Gran picked for supper.
