A stroll in the countryside

With Gran, Grandad and Jake (on the other end of the leash) Chillin' Tummy time again? Do we really have to do this every day... My legs are getting stronger... Can't wait to walk by myself!

Steak, steak, wonderful steak...

So, as usual, Alice is having tons of fun this weekend, playing with her mum and dad (she and Guy did some rowing together - see photo below!), and visiting with her friend Simonne. But wait there's more exciting news to share with you... Alice has two teeth! It would seem as though the early morning wakeups the past 2 days were not without cause. She must have been eager to share the news with us and we didn't catch on until this morning. Two perfect little white spots on her lower gums. We are so proud! Hmmm... what are these pointy things? Girly playtime Your mum is pretty cool too, Simonne Row faster daddy!

Daddy's back!

Guy finally made it home after a very long day of travelling. Late last night he snuck into Alice's room to have a peek and say a quiet hello. She must have been excited that he came back because she woke up at 4:30 am this morning just to see him! Since then it has been all fun and games as she shows him her new toys, and all the things she can do (running, razzing, talking...) Lucy can hardly get a word in edgeways! That's all for now... there's so much fun to be had!

No more sleeps!!!

Alice's daddy comes home tonight... Everyone is happy!

This one's for you Gareth

Alice has a new toy! Step 1: You cut a hole in the box Step 3: You make her open the box!

There's a new fashionista in town...

That's right. Our favourite little Fashion KGB Agent outgrew her hat.

Weekends are fun

Well we've been just too busy to take many photos, but what a lovely weekend it's been! Friday night a visit from Gran and Grandad, Saturday a big outing with Christine and Olivier to look at and dream about cottages, and Sunday lunch with Alice's friends Nicolas and Lea. Now it's time to rest up before dad gets home! Hmmm...this looks good! And by golly, it tastes good too! Atchoo!

Falcondo Mine

Minivan, I don't need no stinking minivan. Me with the foreman and a driller. Giant 6 legged spider 3 inches in diameter. A nifety self propelled drilled. Giant mines call for giant machinery

Carnaval of La Vega

I disregarded a warning from the travel consultant Xstrata uses and I went directly to the largest Carnaval celebrations in the DR. There were some awesome costumes (each representing a group of some sort (mainly local companies), some good beer and awesome music. The constumed monsters carry around a heavy ball on a rope that they will hit you with it (anywhere below the belt). It really does hurt; the only rule is that you cannot add weight to the ball, thats it, anyone is game. The spiders shown above were an especially agressive gang.

Six gros dodos!

The general is sleeping. Quick, get your fash-on. C'mon Gran, put some juice in there for me! Look at this yummy cake dad. Come home soon and we'll bake one just for you!

That's what grandads (dads) are for

After the big snowstorm, Alice's grandad came over this morning to help shovel us out. Here are some pics for you Guy to show the Dominicans... Before the back-breaking work And after (kind of hard to see, but look - it's right down to the asphalt) P.S. Alice is 5 months old today!

Happy Valentine's Day!

This little number lasted until lunchtime! True love is hard to find (Alice and Jerry sittin' in a tree...) Watching the snowstorm outside Another Desharnais face perhaps?

A day at the beach

If I timed this correctly my friends in Montreal will be hunkered down for the day due to a heavy snowfall warning, and my friends in Winnipeg will be waking to up -30 degrees celcius temperatures. It seems that DR has some magnificent beaches, who knew? My friend Martin Esteves took me to Sosua with his family on Saturday. It was marvelous the water was very warm for the Canadian (rather cool for the Dominicans). If it is any consolation to you I got a pretty bad sunburn. The drive was really nice too.

Arrivals and Departures...

Gran returned home from the United Kingdom on Wednesday. So nice to have her back safe and sound (after a rough trip there during the windstorm that battered Europe) And now... Uncle Gareth is leaving us! He is returning to Stratford to begin preparing for the new festival season. Lucy, Guy and Alice are planning on visiting this Spring, so he will only have to wait a couple of months to see his niece again. Alice got some super jigs from Auntie Katherine Relaxin' at Gran and Grandad's Really relaxin' at Gran and Grandad's The lovely Easter bonnet Gran brought back from Wales (among many other cute things!)
